Ben Chmura

Ben Chmura, originally from Tampa, Fla., graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design. He freelanced for two years with companies including TSE, Club Monaco, Ralph Lauren, among others. Ben also designed independent collections including Red Hood, Ozmapolitan and more.

Ben was among the top ten designers from “Project Runway: Season 7” and showed his first collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. It was inspired by Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles.”

Ben based his NIBIRU collection on theories from Zecharim Stichin's “The Twelfth Planet.” In the book, aliens from planet NIBIRU helped man evolve in the Dark Ages. Ben conceptualized the idea of aliens returning to Earth and evolving our race even more. NIBIRU consists of sci-fi-inspired, contemporary streetwear/sportswear, which Ben believes is the future of daily wear. His collection features fabrics that can endure travel and the elements, including waxed or coated natural fibers and leathers. He also used synthetic fabrics to emphasize fashion’s evolution and created graphic t-shirts from polyester and printed them using a modern technique called “sublimation.” He further highlights fashion’s progression in his collection through designing unisex apparel as the gender line continues to blur.
