David Chum

David Chum is a professionally-trained artist and self-taught fashion designer. He holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Commercial and alternative galleries located online, in the United States, and throughout the world have showcased his artwork.

Through Disney-inspired-ball-gown sketches, David expressed his talent for drawing at an early age. In junior high, he expanded his design skills by learning to sew. David conceptualized and designed costumes competitively for his high school’s theater company. When creating fine art, David frequently incorporates costumes.

“Project Runway” took note of David’s talent and cast him in the show’s season 9. David was also the first recipient of the Emerging Designer Fund, an annual award program that discovers and develops up-and-coming fashion visionaries in Boston.

David creates modern classics with clean lines for his Selahdor brand. David’s signature work includes architectural silhouettes and sleek tailoring. For his most recent designs, David took cues from the curved and simple shape of the monarch chrysalis. The natural wonder’s shape mimics the growing butterfly inside. David transformed his inspiration into a captivating collection of anatomical seams and precise pleating. Go to selahdor.com for more info about David.
