Marcel Plante

Marcel Plante is a freelance fashion designer based in New England. He recently graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. As a toddler, Marcel showed his love for the glamorous and exotic by crawling underneath gown racks in department stores. In addition to admiring the shiny sequins and beautiful beads, Marcel picked up all of the discarded paillettes that his little hands could find. Marcel adored them as much as his toys.

Today, with a keen interest in the past, Marcel finds inspiration in the obscure characters and events that history has almost forgotten. His luxurious ensembles transcend the gender barrier, and employ traditional corsetry and tailoring techniques.

His Autumn/Winter collection, Doll Boys is a line of special-occasion ensembles crafted from luxurious materials. On the StyleWeek runway, silk velvets constrict waists, as supple skins wrap shoulders. With this collection, Marcel expressed his long-term fascination with the underworld culture of Weimar Berlin; an intriguing time period in Germany from 1920 to 1933. Drag queens, performance artists, androgynes, and other curious people who lived for the period’s glittering nightlife, served as the muses for Marcel’s collection.
